Main foci of strongyloidiasis

Strongyloidiasis is endemic in wet and warm areas, where the prevalence rate may be up to 90% (Bangladesh and Southeast Asia). More than 300 millions of people are thought to harbor the parasite. Out of tropics, endemic pockets exist in more temperate countries, especially in Southern states of the USA, and in the valleys and deltas of European large rivers, such as Ebre and Guadalquivir (Spain), Garonne (France), Pô (Italy) and Danube (Central and Eastern Europe). – Diagram realised from a projection of Mercanti –
