Main foci of paragonimiasis

Paragonimiasis is a zoonotic helminthiasis due to various species of lung flukes of genus Paragonimus. The transmission is closely related to culinary habits, namely to the ingestion of raw or undercooked freshwater crustaceans. As a consequence, the prevalence of paragonimiasis is high in Southeast Asia, in Equatorial Africa and in tropical South America. – Diagram realised from a projection of Mercanti –
