Main foci of Plasmodium falciparum malaria

Plasmodium falciparum malaria is present across 4 continents from 5. Transmission areas are mostly localized between summer 21°C isotherm lines. P. falciparum accounts for over 90% of malaria attacks in Africa, and represents the most prominent agent of malaria in Southeast Asia. In China, it is only found in Yunnan province and Haïnan island. In Oceania, P. falciparum malaria rages across both Vanuatu and Solomon archipelagos, and also in New Guinea island. – Diagram realised from a projection of Mercanti –
