Brugian lymphatic filariasis is caused by the filaria Nematode Brugia malayi. The disease is zoonotic. The distribution area is restricted to Asia, where the parasite exists together with Wuchereria bancrofti. Vectors are female mosquitoes of genus Aedes, Anopheles, Culex or Mansonia that are exclusively dusk or night-biting. – Diagram realised from a projection of Mercanti –
