Main foci of hookworm infection

Ancylostoma duonenale was primarily localized North of Tropic of Cancer, but has spread out across tropical and subtropical areas. It is rarely found in temperate areas, apart in industrial microclimates (brickyards, mines, or tunnel boring sites). Necator americanus requires higher temperature, so it was primarily localized South of Tropic of Cancer, and it has been brought in West Indies and intertropical America. – Diagram realised from a projection of Mercanti –
