Sandfly trap (CDC Standard New Jersey light trap ®)

France, Marty Pierre

Sandflies are endemic in areas having a Mediterranean climate, where they are mostly found in rural zones. They are nocturnal insects, that lay eggs in organic material into rock crevices, animal’s holes, hen roosts or rabbit hutches. Epidemiological studies about leishmaniases require a precise indenfication of the vector, and insects are captured by night using light traps.
