Banco hole in the North of Ivory Coast

France, Richard-Lenoble Dominique

“Banco” is the African name for the crude building material elsewhere known as adobe. The waterholes caused by the extraction of the clay are permanent, and filled up during the rainfall season. They are good breeding sites for anopheline mosquitoes, and also for cyclops, the tiny crustaceans that are intermediate hosts for dracunculiasis.
