Epidemiology of fasciolosis. Infection due to Fasciola hepatica (liver fluke) is frequent in cattle and ovids, and sometimes inapparent. Eggs passed in stools embryonate in water, then release larvae that infect snail intermediate hosts (Lymnea truncatula). Cercariae released by snails attach onto aquatic vegetation, then encyst and become infective metacercariae. Should the aquatic plant is edible watercress, Man may become infected through the ingestion of this kind of country salads.
