Mali, Dogon tablelands – Songo village (1994)

Wells dug into the sandstone soil of Dogon tablelands are the traditional way to drinking water. Should the well remain clean, it is at risk to become a permanent breeding site for anopheline mosquitoes. Should aquatic vegetation, such as waterlilies, grow inside, water snails may attach onto leaves, and the risk for schistosomiasis transmission increases.
