New World (French Guiana) cutaneous leishmaniasis due to Leishmania braziliensis

France, Pihet Marc

Crusted lesion of the elbow which extends from several months, on a soldier back from French Guiana. Leishmania braziliensis, which is the most widespread species in Latin America, is responsible for cutaneous or cutaneo-mucosal leishmaniasis. The diagnosis was established from a sample at the edge of the lesion (after peeling of crust), where are preferentially found parasitized cells.
