Toxoplasma gondii – Ocular cyst from laboratory infection

France, Brezin Antoine

Down to up: eye wall, then a thin cleavage plane (artifact), retinal pigment epithelium, layer of rods and cones, outer nuclear layer, outer plexiform layer, inner nuclear layer (or bipolar cells layer), inner plexiform layer and layer of ganglion cells. Within the inner nuclear layer, a cyst-like structure is 70 µm to 100 µm in diameter and contains numerous colored dots. It corresponds to a single Toxoplasma cyst, without any peripheral cell reaction.
