Entamoeba histolytica – trophozoites in stools (ferric hematoxylin stain)

Hematophagous trophozoites (20 µm to 40) of E. histolytica displaying typical nuclear features, namely a central dot-like karyosome, and a peripheral chromatine arranged in fine granules evenly disposed. In the cytoplasm, ingested RBC are smaller than in bloodstream, and stain black. Entamoeba histolytica is the causative agent of amebiasis.
