Trophozoits of E. histolytica may ingest large amounts of red blood celles (RBC), and these hematophagous parasites resemble then a full bag of walnuts. Within the cytoplasm, swallowed RBC stain red, and often hide the nucleus (here, in the upper right part of the trophozoite).
