Malaria diagnosis by detection of antigenemia

France, CHU Lyon Parasitologie-Mycologie

Detection of circulating plasmodial antigens, such as HRP2 (T1) or LDH (T2) uses dipsticks coated with specific monoclonal antibodies. Immunochromatographic tests are helpful for malaria diagnosis, but cannot replace microscopy examination of blood samples. On the pic: A, positive reaction for HRP2 and parasite LDH – B, positive reaction for HRP2 only – C: no plasmodial antigens.
