Plasmodium ovale – Mature schizont on thin blood smear (MGG stain X 1000)

Mature schizont of P. ovale contains 4 to 12 merozoites. Usually very similar to that of P. malariae, it may have an irregular, bashed appearance due to protruding nuclei.
