Plasmodium vivax – Mature schizont on thin blood smear (MGG stain X 1000)

Mature schizont of P. vivax contains 16 to 24 merozoites, and is usually larger than those of other species. It fills entirely the RBC, which can hardly be seen. Hemozoin is present in the center of the schizont.
