Acute dermatitis caused by butterfly

Urticaria-like, papular itching dermatitis caused by certain species of caterpillars, or butterflies such as Hylesia metabus (Lepidoptera, Hemileucidae). Dart-like hairs from these night butterflies may penetrate the skin and elicit histamine release. Dermatitis may last for 1 weeks or 2, and may be accompanied with respiratory symptoms.
