Skin : transverse section of a Dirofilaria repens worm extracted from a skin lesion [HES]

This nematode worm was extracted from a cutaneous, nodular lesion on the forehead in a French patient. Note the longitudinal ridges on the cuticle. Species identification was confirmed by PCR.
