Diphyllobothrium latum (broad fish tapeworm) – Adult specimen

Unlike T. saginata or T. solium, D. latum causes a zoonotic helminthiasis, and recognizes several species of domestic or wild animals as definitive hosts. Strobile of a single worm may include up to 4000 proglottids that are wider than longer, and slightly trapeze-shaped. Genital pore – well apparent on this picture – is localized on the ventral side, in the mid of proglottid.
