Onchocerciasis – Eyesight testing

France, Richard-Lenoble Dominique

African Program for Onchocerciasis Control (APOC) was formed in December 1995 with the sole aim of eliminating onchocerciasis from African countries. It came in continuation of Onchocerciasis Control Programme in West Africa (OCP) that started in 1974. It is based upon detection then treatment of microfilariae carriers, in order to reduce their parasitic load, and also upon control of Simulium damnosum, that is the main vector. It is accompanied with patient management.
