Trichostrongylus sp. – Egg (75-100 µm X 36-45 µm) in stools

France, Dardé Marie-Laure

Trichostrongylus egg is more elongate, but much larger than that of hookworms. It is asymmetrical in the main axis, since it has a rounded pole whereas the opposite tip is pointed. An egg that is passed freshly in stools contains 8 blastomeres, but embryonates within 24 hours. On this pic, a morula fills entirely the shell.
