Schistosomiasis – Skin involvement

France, Develoux Michel

Skin involvement is not uncommon in schistosomiasis, and is mostly observed during S. haematobium infection. Lesions assume the features of more or less dark, painless papules. They look sometimes like nodules or vegetations. Pathology examination shows that these lesions are correlated to intra-dermal granulomas, that are centered by schistosome eggs.
