Dracunculus medinensis (Guinea worm) – Adult filaria under skin

France, Pays Jean-François

About 1 year after the drinking of contaminated water, the fully mature female is about 1 meter long and migrates to the subcutaneous tissues, usually in the lower extremities. As the worm approaches the skin, a small papular induration is produced in the dermis which develops into a blister.
