Mansonella perstans – Microfilaria (200 µm X 5 µm) on thick blood smear

Aperiodic microfilariae of M. perstans are not sheathed. The posterior tip is characteristic, bluntly rounded and contains an hemispheric nucleus. The pathology of perstans filariasis is not well defined. Blood eosinophilia is common.
