Paragonimus sp. – Egg (90 µm X 55 µm) in stools

France, Pays Jean-François

The eggs of lung flukes are asymmetrical, namely slightly broader at the operculate end, and show some shouldering where the operculum originates. Paragonomiasis is a zoonotic disease, and various carnivores and omnivores serve as definitive hosts. Man acquires the infection through the ingestion of raw freshwater crabs or crayfishes (2nd intermediate host) .
