Fasciolopsis buski – Egg (125 µm x 75 µm) in stools

France, Institut de Parasitologie

Differential diagnosis with egg of F. hepatica relies upon the presence of a thin shell, along with an abopercular rough area, and upon the lack of surrounding precipitates. F. buski is the causative agent for a Far East intestinal helminthiasis. Fasciolopsiasis results of the ingestion of viable metacercariae present on the uncooked stems, bulbs or fruits of edible water plants, e.g., Trapa natans (water chestnut).
