Fasciola hepatica – Encysted metacercariae

Following attachment onto, e.g., the reverse side of watercress leaves, cercariae lose tails. They secrete then a very thick shell, that shelter them from climatic variations. However, most of them are ill fated since they felt down the ground, or the river bottom.
