Schistosoma haematobium and S. mansoni – Eggs in a rectal biopsy specimen

Five schistosome species may be diagnosed by fresh examination of biopsy specimen of rectal mucosa, after clearing by use of chloral gum medium. The eggs are hyaline when alive. Dead eggs are opaque, since often calcified.
