Echinococcus granulosus - hooklet (19-46 µm long)

Under microscopy examination, E. granulosus hooklets are easily spotted since they are very refringent. Like any tapeworm’s hooklets, they comprise a handle, a hilt, and a blade. The finding of only one hooklet is diagnostic for hydatidosis.
