Echinococcus granulosus - Adult specimen (3-6 mm long)

Adult E. granulosus is a dwarf tapeworm that parasitizes small intestine of dogs and other canids, where often it adhers in great number to the mucosa. The scolex has four suckers, a non-retractile rostrum, and is crowned with a double circle of hooklets. It is followed by a germinative neck region, one developing segment, and usually one gravid segment containing a strongly branched uterus.
