Schistosoma japonicum – Egg (70-100 µm X 55-65 µm) in stools

The egg of S. japonicum is rounded, embryonated, with a short, small, terminal spine, which is clearly apparent here. The ciliate miracidium is very apparent. Often the shell is surrounded by precipitates, that are absent on this picture.
