Sarcoptes scabiei – Adult male mite (direct examination x 200)

Male mites are smaller than females (170-200 µm vs 300-350 µm). They have suckers on legs 1, 2 and 4. On legs 3, these so-called “ambulacral suckers” are replaced with a terminal bristle. A male specimen is rarely found alone.
