Rhodnius prolixus – Mutant adult kissing bug

The genus Rhodnius is characterized by antennas localized on the anterior tip of head, very far from eyes. Bug’s biotope is generally into houses, but this insect can be still found in the wild, on palm trees. Main vector for Chagas’s disease in Central and Northern South America. The eyes of this specimen are red due to a mutation associated with dieldrin resistance.
