Feeding tick

France, CHU Cochin Parasitologie-Mycologie

Tick attached in feeding position. Hypostome was embedded in skin using chelicerae. Tick’s meal comprises 2 steps: firstly, a slow feeding period that lasts from 2 to 4 hours, and is often at low risk of transmission for any infectious agent; then a quick feeding step, which is at high risk of transmission.
