Triatoma infestans - breeding

France, Pays Jean-François

Biology and physiology studies, and also xenodiagnosis, require lab-breeding of kissing bugs. Xenodiagnosis (see image E029) was performed for the first time in 1916 by Pr. E. Brumpt, in order to detect Chagas’s disease (American trypanosomiasis). This method is still used in endemic areas.
