BAL fluid : cysts of Pneumocystis jirovecii (Gomori methenamine silver stain x500)

The cyst walls of Pneumocystis jirovecii are stained by Gomori methenamine silver stain. The organisms are clustered, are 6 to 8 µm in length and appear as deflated balls.
