Sinus: Direct examination of a sample : conidial heads of Aspergillus (phase contrast x400)

Direct examination of the biopsy specimen (here from a maxillary sinus) reveals a large number of hyphae, but also some conidial heads evoking Aspergillus fumigatus. In most of cases of fungal sinusitis, cultures remain sterile.
