Tinea capitis. In the case of microsporic tinea, arthroconidia may develop both within and outside the hair shaft. Such infections are caused by dermatophytes of the genus Microsporum. Invaded hairs typically produce a yellow-green fluorescence under Wood’s ultraviolet light.
