Cutaneous cryptococcosis in an HIV-infected patient

During HIV infection, the cutaneous lesions of cryptococcosis, almost always, result from a haematogenous dissemination. The primary lesion starts as a papule, progresses into an ombilicated pustule then ulcerates. After the ulceration, the exsudate drains numerous yeasts. Most cutaneous lesions are localized on the face.
