Mycelium of Mucorales (PAS stain x1000)

In general, the hyphae of the Mucorales are wide (coenocytic or siphoned), little or not septate, from 5 to 20 µm in diameter. The PAS staining underlines the cell wall. The diagnosis of the incriminated species requires the culture on Sabouraud medium without cycloheximide.
