Subcutaneous fungal mycetoma – black grains

The clinical diagnosis of a mycetoma is confirmed by the presence of grains in the pus from recent fistulae or from softened nodules. Their form, sections and colour are useful identifying criteria. The black grain confirms a fungal ethiology.
