Malassezia furfur - culture on a lipid medium

Malassezia yeasts such as M. furfur, cannot grow on Sabouraud medium (lipophilic species, except M. pachydermatis). On the Sabouraud medium with a drop of oil, some round yellowish colonies will grow after 8 days. In daily routine, culture is not essential to the diagnosis.
